Animal Friends OS includes an in-house Pay-in-4 plan: a client pays 25% down today and three more payments every two weeks, with no interest and no plan fee, capped at four payments total. It applies to a single invoice between $150 and $5,000, on Professional and Premium plans, after the client e-signs an agreement and pays the down payment through a hosted Stripe checkout page.
| Payment | When | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Down payment | Today, via hosted checkout | 25% of the invoice |
| Installment 1 | 2 weeks later | Even share of the remainder |
| Installment 2 | 4 weeks later | Even share of the remainder |
| Installment 3 | 6 weeks later | Remainder (absorbs any rounding) |
The schedule is fixed in cents at the moment the plan is created and never recalculated later — what the client agreed to is exactly what gets charged.
Charging no finance charge and capping a plan at four installments keeps this outside the Truth in Lending Act's definition of a "creditor" arrangement. That is enforced in code: any attempt to set a plan fee or an interest rate above zero is rejected outright, not just discouraged in the settings screen.
Payments run through your tenant's own Stripe Connect account only — see /os/facts for what else is and is not built.
Staff builds a plan against an eligible invoice from the dashboard. The client gets a link to a hosted page where they e-sign the agreement, then pay 25% down through Stripe Checkout, which also saves their card. The remaining balance splits into three more payments taken automatically every two weeks, so it is one down payment plus three installments — four charges in total.
No. The plan is interest-free with no mandatory fee, and the code hard-refuses any attempt to set one above zero. That is a deliberate legal design choice: no finance charge plus four or fewer installments keeps this outside Truth in Lending Act "creditor" rules, not just a pricing decision that could quietly change later.
A single invoice between $150 and $5,000 for grooming, boarding, daycare, training, or a custom service, on a tenant plan that has payment plans turned on. The owner can also require the client to be in good standing and require the signed agreement before a plan can be offered.
Payment plans are a Professional-and-above feature. Starter accounts get a clean "not available" response rather than a broken button.
A soft decline gets one retry three days later, for a maximum of two retry attempts. After that the plan is marked past due and the tenant is notified. A card that needs 3D Secure authentication is not silently retried — the client is routed to complete it directly.
On Professional and Premium plans, a client can view their active payment plan inside the Furley app — see the schedule, replace their card, or pay early. Starter-tier client apps do not show this because the underlying plan feature is not available on Starter.
Only a Stripe webhook confirming the charge, never the app guessing based on time passing. Each installment is protected against being charged twice even if a request is retried or the server restarts mid-charge.
